Review of Las Lajas Sanctuary, Colombia

Las Lajas Sanctuary, located in Ipiales, Nariño (southern Colombia), is one of the most breathtaking religious monuments in South America. Built inside the Guáitara River canyon, the church appears to emerge from the rocky cliffs, creating an impressive architectural and natural harmony.

The Gothic-style basilica was constructed between 1916 and 1949 and is famous for both its stunning bridge overlooking the river and the legend that surrounds its origin. According to local tradition, a miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary took place there in the 18th century, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for thousands of believers.

Visitors are amazed by the panoramic views, the intricate stone design, and the peaceful atmosphere. The sanctuary is also beautifully illuminated at night, highlighting its elegant structure over the canyon. Aside from its religious value, it is a cultural and historical treasure, attracting tourists, photographers, and architecture lovers from around the world.

In conclusion, Las Lajas Sanctuary is not just a religious site, but a masterpiece that combines faith, history, engineering, and natural beauty—an unforgettable place to visit in Colombia.

Critical Thinking and Media Literacy

(

“Think Before You Believe”

Media literacy helps us analyze information before accepting it as true. During this activity, I examined social media posts and news articles. I identified bias, manipulation techniques, and misinformation. Critical thinking allows us to question sources, compare facts and make objective decisions. English was key to accessing international information and understanding different perspectives.

Nowadays, it is essential to check what we read, especially on digital platforms. Thinking critically helps me avoid misinformation and become a responsible digital citizen.

Crime and Punishment

“Justice, Responsibility and Consequences”

Crime and punishment are important social topics. During this reflection, I analyzed how societies create laws to protect citizens. Crimes affect communities and punishments, when fair, help maintain order and justice. Studying this topic in English allowed me to learn legal vocabulary and compare different justice systems.

Understanding the consequences of actions teaches us to respect others, follow rules and make ethical decisions.
